Last year, Smith played all 16 games for the first time in four seasons in the NFL. He started the final of the season against the Giants when the Cowboys rested, NFL leader Ezekiel Elliott. He ran 12 times for 35 yards, including a touchdown in the fourth quarter, and two passes for 14 yards. He has 44 runs for 127 yards and nine catches for 60 yards. Smith also played in both Dallas playoff games and won a yard on his only attempt to rush.

Smith's most productive season was 2017. He finished with an average of 55 runs, 232 yards and four touchdowns, as well as 19 catches for 202 yards. Smith's best game was the 30-10 win over the Giants. He scored the last two Dallas touchdowns on a 15-yard run and a 81-yard reception. He ran 47 yards on six carries and totaled five catches for 113 yards per team.

In five career games against the Giants, Smith racked up 82 rushing yards in 18 runs (4.6 yards average), two touchdowns and seven receptions for 127 yards.

Smith entered the NFL in 2015 from Ohio as a rookie free agent with the Seahawks. After a stint in the training squad at the start of the season, Smith made his NFL debut on October 11 in Cincinnati. He won five yards in two races and was cut two days later. Dallas claimed and he played in 10 games this season and seven the next year without ever carrying the ball. Smith had a four-yard reception in 2016. The Cowboys have begun to incorporate it in the offense in 2017.

Barkley, the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, set rookie records for the Giants last season with 1,307 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, and tied another mark with 91 receptions.

Behind him, the giants seek to strengthen their depth. Gallman, starting his third season, collected 176 yards in 51 races and 14 assists last year. Perkins missed the entire 2018 season after having a torn pectoral muscle during an individual workout in the spring. A fifth-round pick in 2016, he ran for 546 yards and participated in 23 receptions in his first two years. Penny was removed from the Arizona Cardinals training group on September 19 and played 14 games with three starts for the Giants. He had seven runs for 25 yards and eight catches for 50 yards, plus two special tackles.

Martin has spent the entire 2018 season training Giants. Hilliman, which is also a Rutgers product, was signed last week.
