For the second time in NCAA History, a D-I athlete has accomplished the most difficult task a hitter can accomplish in one game: hitting a home run. Arkansas sophomore Danielle Gibson broke a solo shot, a two-point homer, a three-point homer and a grand slam in a 15-3 win over SIU-Edwardsville on Saturday.
Although she did not beat history alone with her feat, she broke away from the other cycle hitter by doing all this in just four innings. Even more impressive is that this performance just came hours after his team lost 3-1 to Drake, where Gibson scored 0-4 with two strikeouts. It is clear that she was only overcorrecting the blow that her batting average had after this game.
Gibson became the sixth person in the history of the NCAA to hit four homers in one game. She would have been lucky enough to get the record in the fifth inning, but the game was called unsurprisingly before this round could be played thanks to the NCAA rule.
