‘Gilmore Girls’ actor David Sutcliffe is setting the record straight amid rumors he participated in the riot on Capitol Hill earlier this month.
Sutcliffe, 51, took to his Twitter account over the weekend to respond to accusations that placed him on the Capitol on January 6, the day the building was violated by rioters and resulted in death at least five people, including a police officer.
“There are rumors that I ‘stormed the capital’ (sic)”, Sutcliffe tweeted. “This is not true – although I would have been proud to share a cigarette with this great Patriot!”
In the same tweet, the actor shared a video of a man filming himself smoking marijuana inside the Capitol.

Actor David Sutcliffe has denied attending the January 6 riot on the U.S. Capitol. However, he still faces backlash for appearing to joke that he would have been “proud” to smoke marijuana with a “patriot” who was there.

“We made history guys. People smoke weed here. Can I please hit that and write history with you? I smoke weed. We made history “Says an unidentified man in the video. “Thank you Patriot, we made history. This is our home.”
Sutcliffe’s tweet drew mixed reactions from fans, with some saying it was inappropriate while others wondering if he was joking.
A fan reacted, “Is it possible that he is joking? I literally saw this a few days ago and laughed and thought it was a real joke. I feel like he is sitting at home laughing … watching outrage. If it’s not a joke then … I’m worried. And sad. And worried, “to which Sutcliffe replied,” Right.
The actor also shared the fan’s tweet, writing “I feel like I was seen”, further appearing to confirm that he was not serious.

Although he seems to confirm he was joking, Sutcliffe was still pushed back.
“There’s nothing ‘patriotic’ about this guy breaking into the Capitol building and smoking weed. Nothing at all! a A Twitter user said.
“Disappointed – but mostly in myself to believe that your true personality was reflected in the characters you played. You were always seen but obviously not understood. For my part, I can’t listen anymore,” another replied.
“Bad way to be seen,” another claims.

Another informed Sutcliffe that Twitter is “not the platform for such a joke.”
A representative for Sutcliffe did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
Sutcliffe isn’t the first celebrity to face allegations of the Capitol storming. Jay Kay, the lead singer of the band Jamiroquai, was forced to deny he was at the Capitol riot a day after it took place.

When he noticed his name was trending on Twitter after people mistakenly identified him as one of the rioters, Kay tweeted: “Hello Washington, I love the headgear, but I’m not not sure that’s my crowd. Stay safe everyone, J xxx. “
