Gina Torres has appeared in “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” as Cas, widow of the former Dozer pilot of Nebuchadnezzar. In a small supportive role, Cas and her two children have helped put a face to the people of Zion, the last human city on Earth. Cas finished the original “Matrix” trilogy alive, while main characters Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Neo (Keanu Reeves) appeared to be dying. And yet, Trinity and Neo are returning for “The Matrix 4” later this year while Cas is not. In a recent interview with Variety, Torres said she was looking for answers about these returning dead characters.

“Not to be bitter or anything, but the people who are actually in the movie, I believe, are dead,” Torres said. “And the people who aren’t, haven’t. So that’s all I have to say about it. I am so curious about where they are. And what’s their starting point and what story they want because it’s like they’ve told it.

Thinking back to his involvement in the original “Matrix” trilogy, Torres remembered Laurence Fishburne telling him about the first opus and her reaction, “Sure, good luck with that.” Torres then visited “The Matrix” in Sydney and realized how wrong his initial skepticism was after looking at test footage.

“The Wachowskis threw a dinner because they wanted to show the actors what they had cut together. And what they had cut together was the start of the rescue streak, ”Torres said. “It was Carrie-Anne [Moss]. It was Hugo [Weaving] basically telling his men they were already dead. Cut to Carrie-Anne kicking a big ass, then the whole bank footage where they’re going to save Morpheus and the first time you see bullet-time.

Torres continued, “I’m sitting there and I didn’t even know my mouth was open. As if I had no idea how deep my jaw was. And then I don’t think I actually breathed for three minutes. I was like, ‘Oh, that’s what you do all the way here in Sydney.’ “

Warner Bros. is slated to open “The Matrix 4” on December 22, 2021. The film is included in the studio’s hybrid and theatrical release model, which means that it will open in theaters the same day it becomes available to stream exclusively on HBO Max. for 31 days.
