Now I know you’ve been waiting for this one. Today Guilty Gear Strive Arc System Works Getting Started Guide gives us all our first in-depth look at a very fashionable, all-new and already fan-favorite character, Giovanna, who will be making her series debut when GG Strive launches this spring.

The sexy and sleek new fighter may look like she stepped off the Milan catwalks, but is in fact, of all things, a federal agent, tasked with guarding some of the top officials on the planet. Don’t let that distract you from her, as Giovanna maintains her magnetism with a super cool demeanor and a Good Boy named Rei, a witty wolf who compliments Giovanna’s acrobatic fighting style.

Designed as a friendly character for beginners, Giovanna oddly dodges projectiles, fighting with a range of familiar attacks. Giovanna has variations on Guile’s Flash Kick, Terry Bogard’s Crack Shoot, and even Chun Li’s Spinning Bird Kick. To avoid being zoned, Giovanna can launch a Cannon Spike-type attack that negates the fireballs. Without projectiles, it’s up to players to put pressure on the opponent with active forward progression, before mixing them up with a variety of combos and flashy throws. From this video I am a little concerned about Giovanna’s lineup and options compared to other characters, but sure enough it’s day one so we’ll see. And we will see, as you can guarantee a real circus of Giovannas online in beta version.

The Guilty Gear Strive The beta will start on February 18 for all PS4 and PS5 players – regardless of PlayStation Plus status. Pre-order customers can take part in the action a day earlier, February 17. Guilty Gear Strive launches April 9 on PS4, PS5, and PC via Steam. As a refresher course, check out the previous starter guides for May & Axl Low, Sol Badguy & Ky Kiske, Chip Zanuff & Potemkin, Faust, Millia Rage, Zato-1, Ramlethal, Leo Whitefang, and Nagoriyuki.
