Girl Scout cookie sellers victims of fake 100 dollars

A troupe of 9 and 10 year old Auburn Girl scouts earns $ 100 after a customer who bought a cookie paid with a fake $ 100 bill.

It was believed that the dummy bill had been returned for a box of cookies and had been changed during last weekend's sale outside the CVS pharmacy in North Auburn.

Trooper leader 282, VĂ©ronique Zobel, said the worthless bill was discovered Wednesday by a cashier when she donated money raised at the US bank this weekend.

The 9- and 10-year-old troupe will be selling cookies again this weekend to try to catch up and raise money for activities such as a one-night visit to the Monterey Aquarium.

"It's so discouraging," said Zobel. "They worked all day Saturday and Sunday and it's cold outside."

The bank will report the crime to the secret services, which deal with counterfeit cases involving banks, said Zobel.

The suspect would be a brown-haired woman, measuring about 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet.

"Who would think that someone steals girls 9 and 10 years old?" Asked Zobel.

And although there is no badge for that, they are learning a hard-won lesson about the foiled crime.

The troop will receive a new purchase: a felt pen with an iodine-based solution able to detect counterfeit notes.

Troop 282 will be selling cookies Sunday at Safeway from 8 am to noon, from noon to 2 pm at CVS on New Airport Road and from 14h to 18h. at Save Mart in Auburn. Saturday, they will be in front of the North Auburn Petco from 10am to noon and the CVS in North Auburn from noon to 4pm.
