Github allows you to donate to your favorite developers and applications

During the beta, only some developers will be eligible to receive donations. A "Sponsor" button will appear on their profile, which users can click to set up a recurring gift to support their work. For the first year, GitHub removes all processing fees related to the program so that 100% of the donations are paid to the creators. As the program develops, it will encompass all contributors to GitHub, including those providing code, documentation, leadership, mentoring, design, and other functions. GitHub can also enable organizations – not just individuals – to sponsor projects and developers in the future.

In addition to funding individual contributors, GitHub will also give open source projects the opportunity to set up funding directly from their repository. Project leaders and contributors will be able to define how funding works, including presenting sponsors, choosing from a number of popular funding models, and establishing links with alternative funding platforms.
