Consumer complaints about glass or plastic at Boston Market brand dinners prompted more than 86 tonnes of frozen food to be picked up from local retailers and defense centers in Arizona.
Federal officials urge consumers to check in their home if the "slab-shaped" meal of pork ribs boneless pork not ready to eat is prepared with mashed potatoes. Bellisio Foods of Jackson, OH, distributed the frozen dinners, according to a recall notice issued by the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Recalled microwave dinners in the Boston market have expiry dates from December this year to mid-February 2020.
As of the date of the recall, a specific list of retailers who received Boneless Boneless Pork Ribbon Dinners was not yet available. FSIS regularly publishes lists of retailers as they become available. The recall notice does not indicate whether the DOD facility in Tucson, Arizona, has distributed the subject dinners to other locations.
"FSIS is concerned that some products are frozen and in consumer freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products must be discarded or returned to the place of purchase, "according to the recall notice.
Bellisio Foods reported to FSIS that the 173,376 pounds of recalled Dinners at the Boston Market had been produced at various times between December 7, 2018 and February 15 of this year. All frozen dinners recalled bear the USDA EST establishment number. 18297 "printed at the end of the individual boxes.
The 14-ounce dinner is packaged in black cardboard boxes marked "BOSTON MARKET Home Style Meals." BONELESS PORK COAST STYLE WITH BBQ SAUCE AND MASHED POTATOES ยป
Consumers should look for the following dates and lot codes to determine if they have any of the recalled frozen dinners in their possession:
- "BEST BY" date of 12/07/2019 with lot code 8341;
- "BEST BY" date of 01/04/2020 with lot code 9004;
- "BEST BY" date of 24/01/2020 with lot code 9024; or
- "BEST BY" date of 15/02/2020 with lot code 9046.
"The FSIS was notified on February 22, 2019 (about the problem)," according to the recall notice. "No adverse effects or injury related to the consumption of these products has been confirmed. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a health care provider. "
