Cuban-born pop star Gloria Estefan has called on President Joe Biden to take the lead in condemning the communist dictatorship in Havana for its crackdown on mass protests.
The 63-year-old believes the United States and the United Nations must take joint action against the Cuban government, adding that she hoped the Cuban police and military would support the protests.
Estefan’s cry for intervention was echoed on Saturday by hundreds of protesters outside the White House who pleaded for Biden to send aid to protesters in Cuba.
They also called out Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for their pro-socialist positions, as reported by Breitbart News.
Estefan was equally blunt in his denunciation of the Biden administration for looking away.
“My heart hurts for the Cuban people on the island and what they have already experienced for over 62 years… But now they are saying ENOUGH despite the beatings, the murders and incarceration, the abuse of power, the famine and the attempted destruction of their minds! They need our support and that of the democratic and free countries of the world, ”Estefan wrote on Instagram in English and Spanish.
“The United Nations and, in particular, the United States, must strongly condemn the repressive and violent measures taken by the Cuban government against their own people! Spread the images, spread the word! she added.
UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet on Friday called on Cuba to release anti-government protesters and journalists arrested during the protests and denounced the use of force against them.
Three-time Grammy winner Estefan said she was proud of the young Cubans who risked their lives to protest.
“It is very easy to speak in a position of freedom and comfort. They do the hard work and I applaud them from the bottom of my heart and thank them for being so brave, ”she said.
Estefan’s mother, Gloria Fajardo, earned a doctorate in education in Cuba, but her degrees were destroyed when she fled to the United States during the Cuban revolution.
Other celebrities who have drawn attention to the recent protests include Cuban-American singer Pitbull, Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello and retired American actress Eva Mendes, all of whom know firsthand the disaster that communism visits everything it touches.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel last week accused the US embargo of “a policy of economic suffocation,” which he said had a “cumulative effect” on the country, NBC News reported.
The Hill reports Secretary of State Antoine Blink denied claims that the protests are “the result or the product of everything the United States has done.”
“I think it would be a serious mistake for the Cuban regime to interpret what is happening in dozens of cities across the island as the result or the product of everything the United States has done,” said Blinken.
