GM and UAW contract negotiations go to the end – The Buffalo News

Contract negotiations between General Motors and the United Auto Workers are well under way.

The contract between the union and the automaker must expire at the end of Saturday. The UAW has extended its contracts with Ford Motor Co. and Fiat Chrysler, which were to expire at the same time as those of GM. The UAW placed GM at the center of its contract negotiations between the Detroit Three.

It is unclear whether the UAW would go on strike against GM if the contract expires without agreement in principle. GM has a strong presence in the Buffalo Niagara area, with factories in the cities of Tonawanda and Lockport. Together, these two plants employ approximately 3,000 people, the vast majority of whom are represented by the UAW.
