Yesterday, the Justice Department (MJ) warned the Oscars that proposed changes to the rules would be seen as an attempt to block Netflix and other streaming services rewards.
In recent months, Steven Spielberg has reportedly imposed rules banning first-time movies on Netflix and other streaming services from The Oscars.
At present, the Department of Justice has sent a letter to the Oscars regarding the amendments to the anti-trust rules of the Sherman Act, which prohibits anticompetitive agreements between competitors.
Some industry players have argued that movies broadcast on streaming services should be included in the Oscars controversy as they have not gone into the movie theaters.
As Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and others grow, they are no longer just stimulating television studios, but also hit movies. Some industry players seem unhappy with this, but the question now is when will the efforts to block Netflix against the rewards series break the Sherman law and be considered a antitrust question.
