God of War director Ragnarok on Thor’s conception

PlayStation unveiled the first real trailer for the upcoming God of War Ragnarok During last week’s PlayStation Showcase 2021, and in addition to the trailer, a bunch of new information about the new God of War video game was shared like, for example, the first look at Thor’s design. In an interview published after the revelation, God of War Ragnarok Director Eric Williams and Creative Director Cory Barlog went into details on new character design

Notably, God of War RagnarokThor’s portrayal of Thor differs quite markedly from what is arguably the current version of Thor in popular culture that comes to the forefront of most people’s minds: Thor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, played by Chris Hemsworth at the screen. The video game Thor isn’t so much with sculpted abs and a chiseled jaw as he is a tall, beefy man with a sizable belly. As you might expect, this was very intentional. “Well, I don’t know, we just want him to be a big boy, you know. Marvel’s interpretation of him is one thing. It’s interesting. We wanted to, you know, dig into that a little bit. mythology itself, ”Williams told Game Informer when asked how they ended up on Thor’s conception.

“They have an immediate presence,” Williams added of people in his life who have similar stature and build to. God of War Ragnarokit’s Thor. “And it’s not always because of the muscles. They’re just like it’s a wall of a human being, you know. So it’s a wall of a God, you know, and it’s why it was so important. “

“I think there’s something so fantastic about that it doesn’t all have to be this kind of scintillating muscle concept to still be fantastic and powerful and intimidating,” Barlog said as part of the same interview.

God of War Ragnarok is currently set for release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in 2022. As for Sony Santa Monica Studio’s God of War franchise in general, the latest and greatest title is available for PlayStation 4 and as a title Backwards compatible on PlayStation 5.
