Developer Santa Monica Studio revealed just over a week ago that their own version of Thor is set to appear in upcoming PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 titles. God of War Ragnarok will be a little different from other iterations of the character we’ve seen in popular media. Notably, by Ragnarok Taking Thor is an almost night and day difference between the version Chris Hemsworth played in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, those who created this new version of Thor have revealed why they chose to go in a different direction.
Speaking to Game Informer, God of War Ragnarok Director Eric Williams was asked about the iteration of Thor by Santa Monica Studio and what inspired him. In short, Williams explained that they wanted to create a version of Thor more faithful to Norse mythology. “Well, I don’t know, we just want him to be a big boy, you know. Marvel’s interpretation of him is one thing. It’s interesting. We wanted, you know, to dig a little deeper into it. mythology itself, ”Williams said. He went on to say that even though Thor has a bit bigger gut than the MCU version of Thor, that extra weight almost reflects real strong men more. “They have a presence immediately. And it’s not always because of the muscles. They’re just like that, it’s a wall of a human being, you know. Important,” he explained.
Adding his own vision of the situation, God of the war Director Cory Barlog said he personally liked the look of Thor’s the studio came up with. “I think there’s something so fantastic about that it doesn’t all have to be this kind of scintillating muscle concept to still be fantastic and powerful and intimidating,” added Barlog. Overall, it looks like those working on the game are big fans of the version of Thor they’ve created and hopefully once fans see the character in action in God of War Ragnarok, they will feel the same.
