God of War Ragnarok addresses one of the biggest criticisms of the first game

God of the war 2018 is widely regarded as one of the best games of its generation, as evidenced by both its 94 on Metacritic and its commercial success. However, it’s not a perfect game either. For example, its hub world is quite poorly designed. During this time, it also lacked enemy variation, for which it was criticized for when it was released. For now, it remains to be seen if any improvements have been made to the first one, but according to the game’s creative director Eric Williams, the team specifically upgraded the enemy variety with the aforementioned review of God of war 2018 in mind.

To that end, Williams notes that the team believes players will be in awe of the overall distribution of NPCs, characters, and enemies, suggesting not only plenty of variations, but a surprise as well.

Below you can see where Eric Williams, alongside God of the war 2018 Creative Director Cory Barlog talks about this enemy variation improvement and more, thanks to an interview with YouTuber Kaptain Kuba:

Sure, improving enemy variation might seem like a small improvement, but there really isn’t room for a major improvement. Since the revelation of God of War RagnarokSome criticized the game for looking too much like its predecessor, but to some extent it was inevitable. Not only does the game have to run and perform well on PS4, but unless you take the first game and flip it over, there aren’t a ton of opportunities to really distinguish the sequel from its predecessor.

God of War Ragnarok is in development for the PS4 and PS5. At the time of publication, it is still not known when the game will be released, but it is currently expected to be released this year. However, the lack of a window 2022 has some PlayStation fans fearful that the game will be tied to 2023.
