A sequel to Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong is the long-awaited sequel to Legendary’s Monsterverse. Godzilla vs. Kong is set to hit theaters and on HBO Max on March 26 as part of Warner Bros. simultaneous release strategy. Legendary finally released the new trailer ahead of the film’s March 26th release. The trailer begins with Kong in chains before showing scenes from the battle aboard military aircraft carriers. The trailer positions Kong as the hero and Godzilla as the villain, with many characters concerned about Godzilla’s destructive behavior. They place all their hopes on Kong to stop Godzilla, and the trailer shows the massive battles that await fans. Godzilla vs. Kong, below:

The trailer is an exciting look at the first blockbuster to air in quite some time. With the strategy of Warner Bros. to release all of their 2021 movies in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time, it may be one of the only blockbusters to be released in the coming months as more films see their dates pushed back. Fortunately, Godzilla vs. Kong seems like the perfect blockbuster to fill this gap. The trailer showcases the massive scale of the globetrotting film, with the return of familiar faces fans will recognize in previous films. Brown’s character is positioned to cheer on Godzilla, or at least understand why he’s so adamant about beating Kong, while Kong has his own cheerleaders in Hall franchise newcomers, Skarsgård, and an unnamed kid.

The trailer itself only shows three battle sequences: the one aboard the military aircraft carriers, one, apparently set in the past, featuring Kong, and what appears to be the final battle between the titular characters in a neon-lit cityscape. The film seems to make Kong the main focus, and rightly so. Godzilla and his origins have been explored in two previous films, while Kong: Skull Island is the only current Monsterverse film to explore Kong’s backstory. Godzilla vs. Kong seems to fill this backstory while serving up some really gigantic fights. The long-awaited showdown between the two titans is finally here and, if the trailer is any indication, the wait will be worth it.
