Hollywood’s awards season kicks off Sunday, February 28 with the 78th Golden Globe Awards, hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The Golden Globes, widely seen as a harbinger of who could win awards on other shows like the Oscars, will be a little different this year thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Hosts and presenters will be in different locations in the United States and around the world.
Streaming services have finally taken off at the Globes, with Netflix leading the pack with 20 total nominations for its TV shows; Hulu has six nominations in total, Apple TV Plus has two, and Disney Plus has one. In cinematic categories (the Globes honor movies and TV shows), Netflix is leading the way with 22 nominations.
And it looks like the Golden Globes judges have heard the criticism of recent years about excluding women from the Best Director category. This year, three of the five nominees for Best Director are women.
What time do the Golden Globes start?
The Golden Globes will begin at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on Sunday, February 28. As for several years, NBC is broadcasting the three-hour awards show.
How to watch the Golden Globes?
The Golden Globes will be available for live streaming on NBC’s website or app, but you will need to enter your TV provider’s information to watch them. You can also watch on Hulu Plus Live TV and YouTubeTV, both of which have paid subscriptions.
Where can I watch the pre-show?
Like every year, E! kicks off its pre-show starting at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT. The official pre-show will begin airing at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT from Golden Globes Twitter account and the official website of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globes. NBC will begin red carpet coverage at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
Who hosts the Golden Globes?
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return as co-hosts, returning for the fourth time. The duo were hosted in 2013, 2013 and 2015. They will be bicoastaux this year: Fey will be live in New York while Poehler will be in Beverly Hills.
The list of presenters includes: Awkwafina, Cynthia Erivo, Annie Mumolo, Joaquin Phoenix, Kristen Wiig, Renee Zellweger, Bryce Dallas Howard, Christopher Meloni, Rosie Perez, Christian Slater, Anthony Anderson, Tiffany Haddish, Kate Hudson, Margot Robbie and Kenan Thompson.
