Without their superstar, the Golden State Warriors looked like a lost team whose season eluded them.
That all changed with the return of the double NBA MVP.
Stephen Curry finished with 32 points, five rebounds and five assists, while Andrew Wiggins had 21 points to lead the Dubs to a 116-102 victory over the Chicago Bulls.
The win ends the Warriors’ four-game losing streak and helps them move closer to the .500 mark for the season.
The Dubs looked like a very different team with Curry on the pitch. The team looked lost in their previous two losses, struggling to find a foothold at both ends of the floor. You might notice the difference right off the bat. Golden State looked neat with their overall back in the crease, shooting 50.5 percent from the field and logged on 16 of 38 of their 3-point attempts.
“It’s so obvious, he’s just changing,” said head coach Steve Kerr after the game. “The game is getting so much easier for the whole team. So that opened things up for us, and I thought all the guys on the pitch were playing well. Every guy. “
The Warriors also got another solid from Draymond Green, who finished with 11 points, five rebounds and nine assists.
“It is [Curry] the heart and soul of what we do. [Steph] and Draymond together are our leaders, and what they do together complements and complements our team, ”said Kerr. “I think the last few games were tough without that dynamic, with Steph running off screens, spreading the ground, bringing his life and his juice.”
Golden State’s second unit did a great job helping bring things to a close. The Dubs held an 11-point lead going into fourth and the bench extended it to 17 under five minutes into the quarter.
With Curry back on the pitch, the Dubs looked a lot better on the offensive end. The Warriors seemed more flexible on the attacking side and took a 16-14 lead early on.
Golden State entered the game third for fouls per game, but committed none in the first 12 minutes. Curry looked sharp at first, finishing with 13 points as the Dubs held a 34-29 lead after a quarter.
The two teams went back and forth in the second. The Bulls took advantage of the fact that Curry was on the bench and tied it 43-43 as Steph returned to the game.
He remained tight the rest of the quarter. The teams traded baskets most of the time, but the halftime highlight came with the Warriors 55-54.
It was Green’s second (!!!!) 3-point half-time, and it helped Golden State run into the end of the quarter to take a 65-60 lead into the break. Curry was his usual incredible first-half personality, finishing with 18 points.
It remained tight in the third quarter. Chicago forward Patrick Williams hit an 18-foot jumper that brought the Bulls down to under two. But the warriors started to move away from there.
Curry scored the next seven points, while Green connected on his third 3-pointer of the game, helping Golden State take a 96-85 after three.
Whatever the competition, it was a big win for the Dubs. They needed to get back on track after going 1-4 without Curry and stay on the hunt for a place to play. Golden State will hit the for a three-game trip that kicks off Thursday against the Miami Heat.
