Good news: there is already a 2JZ exchange kit in preparation for the new Toyota Supra

The original suppliers of the eBay turbo are here to restore the glory of the new Toyota Supra 2020. The aftermarket performance company CX Racing announced on Facebook that it would soon take pre-orders with a 2JZ exchange kit for purists, displaying a model of this couple to commemorate what will surely be a chariot of the gods.

In its announcement, the new Supra was strongly criticized for its use of the original BMW parts, making it a redesigned BMW Z4 and rethought. The purist purists and keyboard warriors have both denounced the platform to defile the 2JZ-GTE's legacy despite the fact that Akio Toyoda himself approved it.

The BMW M58 is used to power the MK5 Supra and maintains a configuration similar to that of the formidable 2JZ-GTE; six cylinders placed in a straight line with 3.0 liters of turbocharged benefits. The new powertrain produces 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque, so its 4.1-second time ranging from 0 to 60 seems to be a kid's game for the car under 3400 pounds.

Despite criticism of the B58, the famous MK4 Supra 2JZ welcomed the drivers with a slightly lower power of 325 horsepower and 324 lb-ft of torque. Although this may seem like a situation in which an engine exchange does not make sense, it must be considered that the 2JZ is infinitely more customizable compared to the relatively young B58, which has only been in production since 2015. The 2JZ was not only a powerful engine in the 90s of the factory; the stock block could contain senseless amounts of power.

The performance variant of its BMW Z4 counterpart, the M40i, carries the same B58 engine under the hood and will receive a modest power boost, resulting in 380 horsepower output. Therefore, the Supra seems to have some leeway to draw extra power, but this translates into expensive and modern parts and development costs.

Unfortunately, we do not know if the exchange of CX Racing will only apply to the engine or if it also includes the transmission. Toyota's announcement that the Supra would only be available with an eight-speed automatic has made some potential buyers crack. locking a manual transmission, especially the matching R154, could bring a whole new niche to the MK5 Supra.

The California-based tuning company has promised that the imminent release of the kit would be "soon", but it unfortunately left the project's release date. Probably because the Supra has not been delivered yet. But when it will start to go down the aisles, I can not wait to see what the owners are booking for us, especially with a bit of nostalgia under the hood.
