On Wednesday, the company owned Alphabet announced the addition of automatic removal tools for location history data, web browsing and application activity. The feature will be available in the coming weeks.
"We are working to keep your data private and secure, and we've heard your feedback that we need to provide you with easier ways to manage or delete them," the company said in a blog.
Google (GOOG) The new automatic delete feature allows users to choose how long they want their activity data saved: three months or 18 months. Then the data will be automatically deleted from the user account after this time, depending on the company.
Google was already offering tools to remove all or part of the user location history or web activity data and applications, but this had to be done manually. (The manual option will still be available).
The move comes as people are increasingly concerned about their online privacy. Following a series of recent privacy scandals, high-tech companies such as Google and Facebook (FB) are scrutinized for the amount of data they collect about users and what they do with it.
Last year, Facebook announced a similar feature called Clear History, which would allow users to manually delete their cookies and their history. However, this feature has been delayed. At a recent press event on "Integrity" on the platform, Facebook manager Guy Rosen said the tool should now be launched this fall.
