Representatives from four of the top five technology companies – Apple, Amazon, Google and Facebook – will appear before the House's antitrust subcommittee on July 16 for a hearing on "Dominant Platforms and Innovation", announced Tuesday the subcommittee.
The four major technology companies each send policy makers to testify before the subcommittee. They understand:
- Adam Cohen, director of Google's economic policy
- Associate General Counsel of Amazon, Nate Sutton
- Matt Perault, Head of Global Policy Development on Facebook
- Kyle Andeer, Compliance Manager at Apple
In a statement announcing the audience, the subcommittee announced that it would "examine the impact of the market power of online platforms on innovation and the spirit of 39; company. " Experts such as Tim Wu, Columbia Law School professor, will also be present.
The hearing comes as the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice are considering major technology companies as part of the creation of a potential antitrust case. Shares of Amazon, Facebook and Google's parent company, Alphabet, were all dropped earlier last month, following a series of reports that agencies were preparing antitrust probes in companies.
Meanwhile, the regulation and eventual dissolution of the largest technology companies became a campaign issue for the 2020 presidential election. Senator Elizabeth Warren called for Apple, Alphabet, Amazon and Facebook to be dissociated.
