Google and Amazon are finally fixing their big streaming problem

Sometimes, Silicon Valley stops quarreling. To date, Amazon and Google have lifted the ban on competing video services.

This means that there is a YouTube app launched for Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick (second generation), along with the compatibility of other Fire TV devices later this year, and Google Chromecast owners, Chromecast integrated devices and Android TVs get full access to Prime Video service from Amazon.

On Fire TV, the official YouTube app appears in "Your apps and channels" and supports 4K HDR playback at 60 ips plus Alexa voice control integration. YouTube Kids will arrive later in 2019. Interestingly, there is no mention of YouTube on Amazon's Smart Echo Show, one of the devices trapped in the fierce battle of recent years between Google and Amazon . (We asked Amazon to clarify this).

As for Prime Video, it is already available on some models of Android TVs, such as Sony, but this new relaxation means that the Amazon subscription service will now be offered as standard with Netflix and others. This will be good news for current Chromecast users looking to avoid TV FOMO and who have enough money for another monthly subscription.

The move is no surprise – it has been touted for months – but 18 months ago it seemed a lot less likely. In December 2017, Google removed Fire TV's YouTube app after it was bumped into Amazon for sales of Chromecasts (and other Google products) in Amazon's online stores . Eighteen months is a long time, however, and as Disney + and Apple TV + emerge, Amazon and Google will want to ensure that their streaming video platforms are compatible with as many devices as possible.

This truce concerns less the sale of low-cost streaming sticks than the guarantee of keeping an eye on the eyes when the streaming landscape changes in late 2019 and 2020. The launch of Disney Plus in the United States is planned for the November 12 in the United States.
