After redesigning the Weather app, Google’s next step is to introduce Android 12 home screen widgets. We activated the first one last week, and the second Google widget comes directly from the Material You ad in the Pixel 6.
About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” article, we’ve decompiled the latest version of an app that Google downloaded from the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we can see different lines of code in this clue about possible future functionality. Keep in mind that Google may or may not offer these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be flawed. However, we will try to allow those that are about to be completed to show you what they will look like in case they are dispatched. With that in mind, read on.
Compared to the rounded square, this oblong element of the home screen simply displays the temperature and weather conditions. Current location and ups / downs are absent with a clear emphasis on providing a very readable and readable widget.
It is large enough in the form of a 3 × 3 diagonal oblong shape with no current ability to expand or shrink. The look is very much in line with the sparkling “X” of Google Drive and the upcoming Keep widgets. Of course, the nicest aspect is how the background and numbers match your current wallpaper. Another interesting detail is how the temperature and condition overlap.
This widget is featured heavily in Pixel 6 advertising, including the inaugural announcement. It is often displayed in front of the Material You clock. This last widget is not the one we have today – there is no travel day / date – but the fact that this original weather object exists suggests anything is possible.
We have enabled the Material You Weather widget with version 12.37 of the Google app, which is currently in beta. It’s not live yet, though it’s likely making an appearance ahead of Android 12 and the Pixel 6’s launch.
