Google Assistant coming to Samsung TVs in 12 countries by year-end

Google Assistant is now available on Samsung 2020 TVs in the UK, France, Germany and Italy, and will be available in 12 countries by the end of the year, Samsung said. This follows the launch of Google’s voice assistant on Samsung TVs in the United States last month. Samsung announces that it will be deployed in Spain, Brazil, India and South Korea by the end of November. The voice assistant is available alongside voice assistants Alexa from Amazon and Bixby from Samsung.

According to Samsung, Google’s voice assistant can be used to control the TV directly with commands such as changing channels or adjusting the volume, or it can control other smart home devices compatible with Google Assistant, such as thermostats. or lights. You can also ask it for weather information or listen to music, and it integrates with other Google services like search, photos, maps, and calendar.

Samsung’s 2019 TVs were previously integrated with Google Assistant, but back then, users had to give their commands through a separate device equipped with the voice assistant like a Google Home smart speaker. With the newer models, however, users can issue voice commands directly to their TVs by holding down the microphone button on its remote control.

With support for both Alexa and Google Assistant, Samsung’s Bixby smart assistant looks increasingly sidelined on its smart TVs. We can’t imagine many people choosing to use it when popular assistants from Google and Amazon are now integrated.

If you are in a compatible country and want to activate Google’s voice assistant, you can do so by going to its Settings menu, selecting “General”, then “Voice” and finally “Voice assistant”. From there, Google Assistant can be selected as a voice assistant.
