Google Assistant today launches its first celebrity cameo, starting with the silky voice of John Legend. For a limited time, the Grammy Award winning artist will sing you "Happy Birthday", tell you the weather and answer questions such as "Who is Chrissy Teigen?" In your own home.
John Legend is one of six new Google Assistant voices presented to Google I / O 2018 and a preview of his WaveNet voice synthesis model. Powered by Google's DeepMind Artificial Intelligence, WaveNet works by sampling human speech and directly modeling audio waveforms, creating more realistic voices. "WaveNet has allowed us to shorten the time spent in the studio and the model can capture the richness of its voice," said Google CEO Sundar Pichai.
Google asked Legend to record some answers, such as "Hey, Google, me, the serenade" or "Hey, Google, are we ordinary people? to be in a regular assistant voice.
To activate the Legend voice, users can say "Hey, Google, speak as a legend" or select Voice Assistant in their settings to switch to their voice. This feature is only available in English in the United States, but this is probably the beginning of the addition of celebrity cameos in several areas of Google.
