While YouTube Music has seen a series of regular updates over the last few months, Google Play Music has stalled before it could be replaced. In April, Google removed a portal allowing smaller artists to download songs and now removes the option to offer Play Music subscriptions.
For about a year, Google has released only minor updates to Play Music, the version 8.21 for Android this week removing the option "Send a gift." Available under General in Settings, it allows you to "Assign a Google Play Music subscription."
This simple donation includes a subscription ($ 9.99), three ($ 29.97) or six months ($ 59.94). After the selection, you enter the recipient's email address, "From" and an optional message. This opens the Play Store's billing options to confirm, the other person receiving a refund code.
Music gift subscriptions have been around for years, but Google is now starting to remove them from the Android client. A Google Play help page on the "Send Google Play Gifts by Email" procedure explains:
Important: Google Play Music subscriptions can no longer be purchased as a gift.

Despite the message, it is still available on older versions of the Play Music client, while the web application still contains the link. If you visit play.google.com/music/gift, you can also offer a subscription, while this option is always announced on a page dedicated to Play gift cards.
Ultimately, this is a minor depreciation of features, with family plans solving the problem for most users. YouTube Music does not have the same features, but Google's main streaming service needs to add more elements of Play Music, including the Cloud Library and playlist transfer.
