Google Pixel 4 continues to appear all week long while an internal version of the Google Camera "dogfood" app has infiltrated into the wild. This version of Google Camera 7.0 confirms our report on Motion Blur mode, prepares new AR-based features for the Photobooth mode, gives guidance on a mystery Pixel device, and much more.
About APK Insight: In this article "APK Insight", we have decompiled the latest version of an application that Google has downloaded on the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we are able to see different lines of code in this indication of possible future features. Do not forget that Google may or may not offer these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We will, however, try to allow those who are about to be finished to show you what they look like in the case they are shipped. With that in mind, read on.
Motion Blur – Paneer
Google Camera 7.0 includes the debut of a new mode under the code name "Paneer", which is a type of Indian cheese.
paneer
Although this single string reference does not specify what is the new mode, almost all references to "Paneer" in the code are related to Motion Blur. Last week, our Stephen Hall exclusively confirmed the addition of a "motion blur" mode to the Google camera to take high quality sports and action shots. The existence of the Paneer / Motion Blur mode corroborates this report.
AR Photobooth – Tiara
Directional Blur is not the only new mode used in Google Camera 7.0. Another feature of the code name, "Tiara", briefly appeared in the latest Google Camera update, and its presence is more pronounced in this "dogfood" version.
This code checks if "ornament" is installed, which is the internal name of the "Playground" application powered by ARCore, and links it directly to "Tiara". Although the inclusion of AR stickers in photos is already possible in Google Camera, we already know it. must be a new feature because it is fully integrated with a function called "isPhotobooth2019Supported".
It's too soon to know what this new version of Photobooth from Google Camera will do, unfortunately, because there is almost no trace of "funshot" in the currently available version of Playground.
Audio zoom
The audio zoom is another interesting feature offered by the Pixel 4 with this version of Google Camera. When you zoom in while recording a video, the Pixel 4 adjusts its microphone to align with what you are aiming for. Although this does not necessarily make you hear more loudly what you are trying to hear, it should at least help to make your environment quieter.
The code currently indicates that the audio zoom is an exclusive feature of Pixel 4, but this could change in the future. Unlike Motion Blur, there are references to audio zoom in pixel and pixel 2 related files, although the feature is currently disabled for both.
Reduce startup times
As this version of Google Camera is a "dogfood" version – as in the phrase "eat your own dog food" – there are strings and features that are only meant to be seen by Googlers and not by the public. It should be noted an internal effort to reduce the startup time of Google Camera.
This launch seemed slow.

go / be faster
From this we can see that Google is trying to solve the speed issues faced by Google Camera users over the last year. Digging through the code, we believe that this notice is triggered if Google Camera takes more than four seconds launch.
HDR and deformation of the mesh
People to XDA developers Also note that Pixel 4 will offer a variety of new "experimental" HDR features that can potentially demonstrate HDR processing directly in the camera's viewfinder. For comparison, taking an HDR photo today is a process of several seconds, while the camera takes the different exposures needed.
Along with this, they discovered code related to mesh deformation, a process that modifies a photo taken with a wide-angle lens to make it look less distorted and more like a normal picture. This shows that the Pixel 4 only has a wide angle camera to take selfies.
How to update?
Google Camera 7.0 is available for download, but at the moment we do not recommend installing it. It's still a recent construction, and during our tests we found it quite unstable. Install at your own risk.
Thanks to JEB Decompiler, which benefit some disassembling of APK Insight.
