Google Chrome 74 now synchronizes with the dark mode of Windows 10

Dark Chrome Mode

When Chrome 74 was released last week, it contained the much-awaited dark mode synchronization with the Windows 10 color settings. However, for most users, when changing the Windows 10 color settings to Dark, Chrome would not automatically switch to Dark mode.

We later learned that this feature was initially offered to a limited number of users and that it would be extended to all over the next few days.

For users who have upgraded to Chrome 74 and the dark mode still does not work, you can force the dark mode by modifying the Chrome shortcut and adding the –force-dark mode command line argument as shown below.

"C: Program Files (x86) Google Chrome Application chrome.exe" --force-dark-mode

This Chrome setting, however, simply forced the dark mode on and did not synchronize with the Windows 10 color settings.

If you wait for Windows synchronization, you'll be happy to know that it has been extended to a larger number of users and should be easily accessible to most, if not all, users. This has been tested in Chrome 74.0.3729.108, which is the latest version.

Now, when you set the Windows 10 color setting to Dark, the browser theme automatically switches to dark mode, as shown below.
