Google could bring one of the best iPhone features to Android

The gap between iPhone and Android devices has been narrowing for years, but there is one area where the iPhone beats Android hands down – and that is updates.

Apple has supported iPhones for years. Take iOS 15, which is slated for release later this year. This update will work on hardware dating back to 2015.

It’s impressive.

But it looks like Google might be planning something similar for its new Pixel 6.

For me, the most interesting part of Jon Prosser’s Pixel 6 exclusive wasn’t the 50MP camera, 12GB of RAM, or 5000mAh battery, but the mention of 5 years of software updates.

That’s right, five years.

“I am told that Google is committing to at least 5 years of software updates for these two devices [Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro]”writes Prosser,” which is BIG NEWS if you’re looking to get your hands on these phones. “

In my mind, Google’s Pixel line has always been the best choice when it comes to longevity and delivering the best Android experience.

I hope this will materialize, as longer support times are good for everyone, and especially for reducing electronic waste.

Another interesting tidbit from the report is that Google may ditch the XL brand in favor of Pro – something else that will look familiar to iPhone owners.
