Google depreciates the Chrome Data Saver extension for the desktop

Google disapproves the Data Saver extension for desktop versions of the Chrome web browser when the stable version is available in version 74; the company renamed Data Saver Lite and decided to make it exclusive to Android.

The company launched Data Saver in Chrome for Android to reduce page loading time and Chrome browser bandwidth. Like Opera Turbo, Data Saver pushed (in part) traffic on Google's servers to compress data and speed up load times of Web pages.

Android Chrome users can turn on the new feature by opening Settings> Lite Mode and enabling this feature by toggling it. If Data Saver was previously enabled in Chrome for Android, Lite mode is turned on automatically.

The disadvantage of this ad is that the Lite mode is exclusive to Google Chrome for Android. Google plans to make obsolete the Chrome Data Saver extension for desktop versions of Chrome in Chrome 74, which is now available. In other words: there will be no official option to use Data Saver or Lite mode on the desktop, at least in the near future.

The Data Saver extension has built-in data backup functionality to desktop versions of the Google Chrome web browser. Chrome desktop users could use it to benefit from the same data backup technology that is supported by the Android version of Chrome.
