A new Google device, which could be an upcoming Nest Cam, went through the FCC on Sunday night. It’s officially called a “wireless streaming device,” a description the company has never used before.
G3AL9, which is the company’s new model number scheme, includes a physical FCC ID located on the “back of the device”, suggesting that no screen is present. There is Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity. Recent devices with “streaming” in their description include the Nest Mini and Chromecast with Google TV.
Test reports indicate that the power supply is a “Li-polymer rechargeable 3.65 VDC or 5 V from an AC / DC adapter”.
A possible candidate for G3AL9 is a new Nest Cam since Google has already promised a “new range of security cameras for 2021” as part of “investing in new innovations”. The Nest Cam IQ Outdoor went out of stock earlier this year, with the Cam IQ Indoor following recently on the Google Store. Such a gadget streams, but has no screen. Battery power increases where a security camera can be placed in the house and works to provide backup power.
The first new Google device to achieve FCC certification this year was the 2nd Generation Nest Hub in January. The Soli-powered Smart Display was announced this month and will start shipping on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Google appears to be working on new Pixel Buds.
FCC privacy on G3AL9 ends September 24, 2021, suggesting a mid-to-year launch for this likely Google Nest Cam.
