The company launched Live Cases in early 2016 for the Nexus 5X, 6 and 6P, using a smart NFC feature to provide a screen background that matches the hull of your phone. Google abandoned NFC technology when Pixel 2 switched over to the My Cases for the Pixel 3 photo solution.
Although this decision is unfortunate for anyone who wanted a truly unique phone, it's not surprising.
