Google iOS 15 Updates: XL Widgets, Focus Mode Support

[ad_1]

With the launch of iOS 15 and the iPad OS 15, Google today announced a handful of app updates to support the platform’s latest features. This includes the new XL widgets, Focus mode, and Spotlight support.

On the Home screen, Google Photos and YouTube Music will deploy extra-large widgets. The streaming service sees album / playlist artwork appear on the left, while you get a 4 × 2 grid of additional suggestions on the right. Meanwhile, the Photos widget will display a large landscape image from your library.

Since the launch of iOS 14 last fall, Google has introduced widgets for key apps, with Photos widgets making their way to Android in August as part of renewed interest in Android 12:

Google says its apps will be updated to “work with Focus Mode” as well as “make notifications as relevant and timely as possible.” You will always receive alerts for Google Maps navigation, task reminders, doorbell notifications, and other important messages from Gmail:

But notifications that aren’t as urgent or don’t require immediate action will go straight to the Notification Center, where you can check them at a time that’s most convenient for you.

Finally, the results of Google Drive and YouTube Music will appear in the Spotlight search. Google’s iOS 15 updates are rolling out and will be fully available in the coming weeks.
