Google Fi, Google’s low-cost MVNO, often has some pretty good deals on new phones. While its selection is small, it typically includes all current Pixel phones (naturally) and a handful of top Android devices from other manufacturers including Samsung and Motorola. A recent change in the terms of the promotion means more people are eligible for the service’s significant phone discounts: especially people who have already tried Google Fi and left for Less Googley Pasture.
9to5Google spotted the change in eligibility requirements when checking for discounts on the new Galaxy Z Flip3. Previously, “new Fi client” meant anyone who had never tried Google Fi before. Now that means anyone who has never tried Fi before, or anyone who quit Fi more than 180 days before taking advantage of a discounted phone promotion. So if it’s been at least six months since you’ve tried the service, you’re eligible again for the new phone discounts, including $ 400 credit on the aforementioned Flip3.
The new status quo has been confirmed by a community manager, so if it’s been a while since you’ve had an Fi deal, check your calendar. With the Galaxy Z Flip3, Pixel 5a, and the upcoming Pixel 6 and 6 Pro on the horizon, it’s time to take advantage of the discounts.
