Google launches new mobile search design

[ad_1]

On Friday afternoon, Google announced the start of rollout of its new mobile search results design. I now see this new design and wanted to share side-by-side comparisons between the old and new design for queries. I covered the ad on Friday at Search Engine Land when it was first announced, but now it should be widely deployed now.

Google said the design makes the search results easier to read, the results are cleaner and simpler, and provides a more modern experience. Here is a side by side so you can compare; click to get the largest and highest resolution of each image:

Snippet of normal search result:

Knowledge panel results:

Local search results:

I doubt these changes will have a significant impact on the click-through rates of the old version, but it does make it look a bit fresher.

Oh and yes, Google has been testing these new layouts for several months now. I spotted it in October 2020 and variations of those tests in December 2020. So we saw that coming.

Do you have any concerns about this new design? I don’t even see any complaints in the major Google search forums …

Forum discussion at Twitter.
