Last year, Walgreens and CVS Health added hundreds of drug take-back kiosks to their drugstores across the country. The update relies on the web locator that she unveiled last year as part of the DEA's National Prescription Drug Takeover Day. Google says that with the help of the tool, the DEA and its local partners have collected a record 1.85 million pounds of unused prescription drugs in 2018.
"Every day, more than 130 people in this country die from an overdose of opioids (…) and the majority of drug addicts (53%) start with drugs provided by family and friends," said Dane Glasglow, vice president of Google Maps products, in a blog post. "That's why Google wants to help people get rid of their drugs that stay in their medicine cabinets."
