Google Meet, the company’s Zoom competitor and successor to Hangouts, has gained many new users and features in recent months due to the pandemic. With everyone working and playing from home, video chat is a necessity these days, and Meet could eventually become Google’s only option. Until now, watching conference calls on TVs and other Chromecast-enabled devices was only possible by casting your entire phone screen or browser tab, but Google has now integrated functionality directly in the Meet interface.

You can start broadcasting before joining a meeting by selecting the “Broadcast this meeting” option or at any time during a meeting by clicking on the three-dot menu at the bottom right and clicking on the same option. Google notes that the feature works with the Chromecast Ultra, first and second generation Chromecast dongles, and Cast-enabled TVs or displays, although performance may vary.

Meet on Chromecast allows users to see their fellow participants at a more realistic size while using their computer’s camera, microphone, and audio. It will be rolled out both online and in the app over the next few days. Make sure you’re using the latest version of Chrome browser and the Meet app, and make sure your Cast devices are using the latest firmware.
