Google Meet is more widely deployed on Google Glass

Google Meet video conferencing adds more comprehensive support for Google Glass, the company’s oft-overlooked augmented reality headset. Yesterday, Google announced an open beta of “Meet on Glass” for Glass Enterprise Edition 2. Google Workspace users can sign up to test the service after a closed beta announced last year.

As The Rod Sean Hollister explained last year that Meet on Glass works differently from normal online video conferencing. When a Google Glass wearer logs in, other participants get a first-person view from the headset camera. Google is touting it as a collaborative remote troubleshooting tool for the business-focused Glass Enterprise edition, replacing less hands-free options like capturing a video with your phone.

Glass failed as a consumer product, but found new life as a $ 999 corporate headset that serves a niche similar to Microsoft’s HoloLens and (since last year) Magic Leap headsets. . Microsoft is promoting a paid HoloLens remote assistance tool that works similarly to Meet with Glass.
