Google won’t introduce a 60-minute call limit for free Google Meet users at the end of March, the company announced in a tweet. Instead, it will now start on June 30. Until then, anyone using the free version of the service will be able to host calls lasting up to 24 hours, which Google describes as “unlimited”.
This is the second time that Google has postponed the introduction of calling limits since the service was opened to free users last April. A 60-minute limit was originally supposed to go into effect at the end of September, but that deadline was later pushed back to March when it became clear that many of us wouldn’t be able to celebrate the holidays in no one with our loved ones. .
Google hasn’t explicitly explained why it’s extending its deadline this time around, but the lingering pandemic restrictions in place around the world are likely to have something to do with it. I think I speak for everyone when I say that I hope Google has no reason to extend its deadline to June.
