The Wall Street Journal has just published an exclusive report according to which all 90,000 American employees (including on Youtube and the associated Alphabet companies) are eligible for testing, whether or not they work remotely. Currently, company staff are working from home and will do so until September 2021. The offer proved so popular that Google’s internal website crashed when it went live on Thursday.
The tests will cost around $ 50 each for Google and will be provided to employees within three days of request (results will be returned within 48 hours of receipt from the lab). According to the comment given to the WSJ by Google, the program does not rely on any government assistance or insurance.
The announcement follows a month of mixed news for the search engine giant. The US government’s antitrust lawsuit against Google has just been revealed to be tentatively scheduled for September 12, 2023, a sign of the complexity of investigating the company. And earlier this month, The New York Times reported that the co-leader of Google’s artificial intelligence team had left under troubling circumstances.
