After rolling out a material theme navigation drawer last week, Google Photos for Android is set to receive backup status indicators directly in the gallery. The app also adds support for Android Foldables before the launch of Samsung Galaxy Fold next week.
The "What's New" section of the Play Store for Google Photos has recently been updated (via Android font) to note these two new additions.
We have launched a new gallery view to help you see which of your photos and videos are not backed up yet and to proactively choose which items to back up. In addition, we've introduced several improvements to make Google Photos compatible with foldable devices.
The first feature already appears to be available in Google Photos for iOS and adds an oblique cloud icon in the lower right corner of images and videos that have not yet been uploaded. With this "new gallery view", users can "proactively choose what to back up".
For the moment, users can expand the download indicator to display a small preview of the image being saved or view each photo individually to check the status of the download in the upper right corner.
Today, another update introduces "several improvements to make Google Photos compatible with foldable devices". This operation comes as the first Android Foldable is still to be launched next week with the Galaxy Fold. After the Samsung device, the Huawei Mate X is expected, and other devices are expected to arrive in 2019.
Google did not detail the support in Photos, but that probably implies the continuity of the screen and the multiple recovery. The first allows applications to switch automatically from one screen to another with respect to the new layout and density, while the latter allows multiple applications to remain active.
Version 4.14 of Google Photos was widely released last week, but the release notes could refer to a new update introduced on Thursday, as the backup status indicators are not yet available.
