Google Photos faces grouping feature arrives in Europe

[ad_1]

Now, Google is deploying its face grouping feature across Europe. This feature was available in some areas since 2015 and works by looking at all the photos in your device and creating a template of each face so that it can group similar instances. Then you can search your photos for particular people or create albums or movies.

If this sounds like a breach of privacy, Google tries to remedy this problem by making face groups and labels visible only to you. Face groups are not shared when you share your photos. They are therefore theoretically only a tool for organizing your own photos. If you prefer not to share so much information about your friends and family, you can disable the feature to delete face templates saved on your device.

If you enable this feature, you can find photos grouped by face in the People to Explore view. It works even with pets, according to Google.

If automatic face detection does not work as smoothly as you'd like, you'll also be able to manually score faces, according to David Lieb, Product Manager at Google Photos.
