A year or more ago, Google Photos displayed, on top of each support item, a clear indicator of whether or not it was backed up. Thanks to him, you can always know at a glance which photo or video has been uploaded and which are still waiting. This indicator has completely disappeared, but the Photos team has finally become aware of the magnitude of its mistake by removing it. The features are restored.

An upcoming gallery view in Photos should allow you to see which media items have not been saved and manually choose which ones you want to download. That's all we really wanted, is not it? This is a necessary feature for users who have not enabled automatic backup and can never tell what is downloaded or what is not, or who are stuck with a mysterious "download of 30 articles" for days without one knowing which element is blocking the process.

WHAT'S UP

We have launched a new gallery view to help you see which of your photos and videos have not been backed up yet and to proactively choose which items to back up. In addition, we've introduced several improvements to make Google Photos compatible with foldable devices.

The option is not yet available – at least we have not been able to trigger it on our devices – but the Photos team has updated the changelog of Play Store to mention it. This is not the first time the Photos team has published a change log before launching a feature. This is what happened recently with the suggested document cropping that does not seem to be active yet, and many times before. We could suspect the team may be trying to steal the show from our demos by announcing things before releasing them – ah!

If you see this new view of the gallery, please let us know. We will keep our eyes open and update this message with an APK if a new version of Photos is required to enable this feature.
