The latest Google phones have just been launched this week, and they have drastically reduced the price of other flagship brands on our list of best phones, including Google's own Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. You have to make some compromises to get the new Pixel 3a at $ 399, but the repairability is not part of it, as the phone got a score of 6 out of 10 from iFixit.
Google Pixel 3a is easy to open because it uses a spongy material instead of the type of adhesive that is usually found in high end phones, according to the iFixit team. This allows the screen to come off without even needing to use a heating tool to soften the adhesive.
Components that tend to be used first, such as the USB-C port and the 3.5mm headphone jack, are also easy to remove and replace. They do not have delicate or permanent wiring. The battery also uses an expandable adhesive that allows it to come out easily.

Of course, a score of 6 out of 10 is not perfect, but it's a little better than the 4 out of 10 that the Pixel 3 won. Whereas Pixel 3a costs a lot less and still offers a similar design, a decent screen and a camera experience almost equal to that of Pixel 3, the new phone starts to sound like a big winner.
The extra repairability means that it has increased longevity, earning it even higher ratings. It will already have three years of updates, including for Android Q as soon as it becomes available. The ability to easily replace an old, tired battery can provide additional battery life.
Now, the Pixel 3a has compromises, like the lack of water resistance, the lower Snapdragon 670 chipset, the lack of wireless charging and a polycarbonate case that will not feel so luxurious. But it is not all negative. The polycarbonate body is less likely to break in the event of a fall and will probably be cheaper to replace than the glass back of the Pixel 3.
Buyers who have been interested in Pixel phones but have fled the price have more than one more reason to target the Pixel 3A.
