Google Pixel 5a is rumored to launch on August 26 for $ 450

The upcoming Pixel 5a has surfaced several times so far, including when Google had to reprimand a report that this device had been canceled. The company said it didn’t and would happen “later this year.”

Today a new rumor tells us what that really means, and apparently the affordable smartphone is set to launch on August 26. It would be priced at $ 450.

In terms of specs, you should expect a 6.4-inch display, Snapdragon 765G SoC, 6GB of on-board RAM, and a 4,650mAh battery. Unsurprisingly, there won’t be wireless charging, and you will only be able to buy the Pixel 5a in one color: mostly black.

The camera will be the same as the Pixel 5’s, and the 5a will have a headphone jack and will be rated IP67 for water and dust resistance.

The specs allow for a huge battery capacity upgrade over the Pixel 4a 5G and a decent increase in screen size. We’re comparing it to this model because that’s what makes sense, despite Google’s confusing naming scheme – the non-5G 4a was much smaller and, well, lacked 5G, which the 5a will have – using the same chipset as the 4a 5G, no less.

The Pixel 5a will launch in just two markets, about six fewer than those that will see the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Those two markets are the United States and Japan, clearly two countries that are desperate for midrange at decent prices – unlike other parts of the world where there is a lot of choice.

Hey, maybe Google doesn’t want to release the 5a in Europe or India, for example, because no one would buy it based on its spec / price ratio? We can only speculate, of course. Either way, expect to only be able to grab one online or from physical Google stores, of which there is only one for now.
