The The Google Pixel 5a will be released soon, probably around May, and will be Google’s 2021 “super low-budget camera” experience, just like the The Pixel 4a 5G was in 2020. But how much will the Google Pixel 5a be upgraded from the 4a, and which one should you buy (or use)?

The Google Pixel 5a is slated for release in the second quarter of 2020, for nearly the same price as the 5G Pixel 4a, likely between $ 400 and $ 450. The Pixel 4a 5G itself came out for $ 499.

Based on a report from a reputable escapee OnLeaks, the Google Pixel 5a will be very similar in design to the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5, as shown in the renderings below.
The Pixel 5a and Pixel 4a 5G both have a clean and modern design. Their screens are surrounded by minimal bezels, only the “chin” being slightly larger. Both have a punch-hole selfie camera built into the upper left corner of the screen.
The two share a lightweight body with rounded corners and a plastic back, where the fingerprint sensor of the two is also located, centered just below the camera module.
In terms of color options, the Pixel 4a 5G was made available in the Just Black and Clearly White color variants, with the same limited options likely to return for the Google Pixel 5a. It’s unclear if the 5a will be offered in more unique colors, but that’s not out of the question for a “budget” device.

When it comes to their displays, the Pixel 5a must sport a 6.2in Full HD + OLED display and apparently a “slightly more noticeable chin” underneath. The Pixel 4a 5G itself also has a nice 6.2-inch OLED display, but it’s 1080p (Full HD).
The Pixel 4a 5G’s display is coated with the very old Corning Gorilla Glass 3, while the Pixel 5g will likely use a new iteration of Gorilla Glass, maybe 5 or 6.

Google calls the Pixel 4a 5G “Google’s essential 5G phone,” which would likely apply to the upcoming Pixel 5a as well, as it will have 5G as well. But 5G aside, 4a 5G can rightly be called “essential” for its amazing camera performance, especially considering its price tag.
The Pixel 4a 5G has a 12 MP main camera and a 16 MP ultra-wide camera on the rear. The phone can record 4K videos up to 60 FPS (frames per second) or 1080p up to 240 FPS. Its front selfie camera is 8 MP.
Likewise, the Pixel 5a is expected to pack a 12MP main camera and 8MP selfie, although its ultra-wide would have a slightly lower megapixel count than its predecessor, at 12MP.

Both phones have a headphone jack. According to the leaks, the Pixel 5a is expected to feature upgraded stereo speakers, while the Pixel 4a 5G has a single bottom speaker.
