Google Pixels may not have Android 12 yet, but they just got their October update

And no functional patch notes for the second consecutive month

Today is unfortunately not the day of Android 12, but Google has just released its planned October updates for the Pixel series, including the new Pixel 5a. Unfortunately for us, it looks like Google has decided to remove the functional patch notes. again This month, therefore, we cannot tell you what has changed or if any specific bugs have been fixed with this release. OTA should will be rolling out soon, promising the latest security patches for the Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, Pixel 4a, Pixel 5 and Pixel 5a series.

The lack of functional patch notes over the past two consecutive months is curious, and we’ve reached out to Google to see if that means they’re going to go away altogether or not. We hope not, as often these ratings are the only way to explicitly confirm that Google has fixed a given issue, like the issue with the Pixel 5a’s touchscreen that I and other reviewers have encountered. We will be sure to let you know if we have any news from the company.

Aside from potentially device-specific improvements or fixes, this update includes the latest security fixes as discussed in the October 2021 bulletin with a few Pixel-specific tweaks sprinkled on top – kinda like vitamins, bit doesn’t matter if you know what it means, it’s good for you (and your safety).

The update should will be rolled out shortly, although this may vary depending on your carrier etc. Build numbers vary slightly, with the Pixel 5a getting a few significantly different numbers by region compared to the rest of the uniform build family.
