Google Play Store Adds New Budgeting Feature to Better Manage Expense

The Google Play Store has very quietly rolled out a new budgeting feature that allows users to set up an expense budget and better track their spend (via VentureBeat).

In-app purchases have become the scourge of many good apps. The Google Play Store is littered with apps posing as "free," but it's packed with expensive in-app extras that offer basic features.

By adding Play Store budgeting, you can finally control your own spending on digital extras. This will be especially useful for those who have young children, who can easily rack up huge bills for the number of addictive "free" games available on the Play Store.

It should be noted that these new spending limit controls do not really prevent you from buying items. Instead, it simply keeps you informed of your predefined limit. To add to this, you can only set budgets in the currency of your connected Google Play country profile.

To set your budget, you need to launch Google Play Store on your Android device. This feature is not yet available on the web. Once you've set a budget, you'll receive a notification that tells you if you're close to your budget or have exceeded it.

While this is another excellent control of online spending, it will not be completely foolproof. As we mentioned, this does not prevent you from buying items. You can also delete your budget as easily as setting one. The feature is deployed in stages for users. So expect to see the update on your device soon. I do not see her here yet in the UK.

How to set a Play Store budget

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app.
  2. On the left, tap Menu> Account> Purchase History.
  3. Select Set budget.
  4. Enter an amount and press Save.

Change your budget

  4. Edit your budget and tap Save.

Delete your budget

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app.

  3. Tap Delete budget.

See how much you spent

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play Store app.
  2. On the left, tap Menu> Account> Purchase History.
