In 2019, Google released a powerful Recorder app with real-time transcriptions for Pixel devices. The latest version, released with the Pixel 5, added editing and social sharing via video clips. A Google Recorder web app will be available soon with the option to save audio to your Pixel.
Recorder.google.com, which differs from the old recorder.withgoogle.com landing page, has just gone live. “Recorder for the Web” will allow you to “share, play and search your audio content,” Google explaining how “Recordings saved with the Recorder app on your Google Pixel will appear here.” This website is simply acting as a client and will not allow users to record from their desktop computer.
Before the home page loads, you briefly see the web application interface. Audio controls at the bottom allow you to play / pause, rewind 5 / skip 10 seconds, scroll and control volume.
A one or two column layout is available, the latter showing the waveform and transcription simultaneously. Users will be able to share recordings (via a link) and delete from the web app. Recordings will likely count towards your Google Drive storage limit.
The web recorder requires an update to the Android app which is not yet available. Once it does, Pixel phones will be able to start uploading content to the cloud. This syncing capability should also mean that previous recordings stay with you when upgrading devices, while backup replaces how users today have to manually upload audio to Google Drive via the spreadsheet. sharing.
This new version of the application will probably be available soon given the availability of the web infrastructure.
