If you don’t have a recent car and / or are too thrifty to replace your stereo with an old one, you can enjoy most of the benefits of the Android Auto interface by running the Android Auto app on your phone. . This is a pretty cool solution, because all you really need is some sort of car holder, saving you anywhere from $ 400 to $ 1400. Now there is a way for you to try out the newest and coolest features of the app: a beta program.

Google is predictably using the Play Store beta system to distribute the new app. If you are new to this distribution method, just go to this activation link, click “Become a Tester” and the Android Auto app on your phone will automatically update to the beta version. When there is one, anyway: Google doesn’t promise that it will always run beta features, as autodevelopment is a bit more rudimentary than some other proprietary apps.

Indeed, it seems to be the case now: the Android Auto Beta list currently shows the same changelog as the standard July 9 release, starting with an improved Do Not Disturb feature. Since then, a few more variations have been released (which we tracked on APK Mirror), but no major changes have been made to users.

Although Google is announcing the beta of the Android Auto app today, it has been running since at least May, according to our downloads. It looks like the company wants a much larger user pool with which to test settings and features. So go ahead.
