Google rolls out first firmware update for Pixel Buds A-Series

After the initial launch and wider international availability with the Pixel 5a, Google is rolling out the first update for the Pixel Buds A-Series to fix some bugs.

Out of the box in the US and Canada, the Pixel Buds A-Series ran firmware version 3.150.0. Google today announced version 233 to address the following issues:

The update contains general bug fixes and stability improvements, including a fix for low maximum volume in some cases.

With this release, Google is moving to a version control system closer to the 2nd generation Pixel Buds. It is currently being rolled out “slowly” and will end “within the next 10 days”. We are not seeing new firmware on our Pixel Buds A-Series yet.

Meanwhile, Google today announced that the Pixel Buds A-Series supports “manual updates” to trigger a download and install “without waiting for it to happen automatically.” We have followed this feature, although it only works if the update has been widely deployed.

1. Place your headphones securely in their open case.
2. On a Pixel phone with Android 10+: Go to Settings Connected devices Pixel Bud Settings.
   On other Android devices: Open the Google Pixel Buds app.
3. Scroll down and select More settings Firmware update.
4. Faucet Update available.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen. It will take about 15 minutes.

This follows the launch in Australia, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, UK and India, while Google has started selling it as pack with the Pixel 5a. With the launch in the US and Canada in June, Google is now offering the Assistant headphones in 13 countries.
